In these large scale works, the ecology of the forest is portrayed with its forest fires, changes of weather, cycles of life and death, and night and day. These transitional elements convey a sense of landscape as a fusion of place and time.

As such, the forest ecology can be seen as part of an emergent process which mirrors the creative processes of evolution.
